Epidemiology
Prevalence of the disease in the general population

A recent study, aiming at identifying cardiac cause of death in otherwise negative medico-legal autopsies, revealed that in 1,000 adults under 65 years of age, who suffered a sudden death, 50 (5%) were affected with ARVD, although they had no previous cardiac symptoms (Loire & Tabib, 1996).

On the other hand, a preliminary epidemiological study conducted in NorthEast Italy indicated that the prevalence of clinically manifested ARVD cases is probably higher than 6 on 10,000 inhabitants (Rampazzo et al., 1994).

Therefore, the disease is more frequent thant it was believed in the past.
